The current economy will drive us to entertain more at home. So you may already be thinking about what your house needs to "spruce it up".
Affordable home accessories, such as decorative pillows, frames, lighting, candlesticks and candles, are a good way to add pieces to revitalize the look already in your home. In addition, you may only need to change a few colors to get the feeling you desire.
Neutral colors are good for large ticket items like: sofas, carpet and wall colors. You should look to trendier colors, like acid green or amethyst, as accent colors.
If you stay neutral with the large ticket items it allows you to make changes more often in accent pieces like throws, pillows, area rugs, vases and candles. I like to change items in my clients' homes by seasons: Spring and Summer I use light colors, Fall can be earth tones and Winter can be calming colors. By changing throw pillows and candles, it'll make you happy to see simple changes in your home that don't cost a fortune.
Some of the colors we're seeing in the Midwest right now are:
- Chocolate brown changing to lighter brown (like mocha).
- Blues are seen because Americans associate it with dependability and peace.
- Pink and reds are colors of cause like aids, heart disease and breast cancer.
When I talk about blues, there are many different shades, like aqua, light blue and turquoise. The pinks are leaning to purple, amethyst and violet. Greens will always be in the home, some people even say that green is considered a neutral, which is a color of growth. But there are new greens out there like acid green and grass green.
One thing I want you to understand about the colors you pick, is that it has to be a color that makes you feel good when you look at it everyday. Colors do change our moods. So when you're picking color for your home, really think about how that color makes you feel (energized, peaceful, refreshed).
You'll go to bed a whole lot happier.
