Finishing Touches & Y98 March Makeover

I thoroughly love being able to do something for someone that was so deserving of such a wonderful prize.

My experience for the Y98 March Makeover Contest was fun and rewarding.

The Fitz-William's have raised their children under the roof of a very modest ranch home. Now that their children are old enough to take care of themselves, it was time for the couple to have something for themselves. In fact it was one of their daughters that entered them in the contest.

The room measured 12x16, and as you can see from the pictures, the room needed some TLC. It had too many pieces of furniture, which is a common mistake made from many of my customers.

The couple told me they loved earth tones and wanted to seat 4 to 6 people in the room. They also requested that the antique armoire stay in the room. They agreed to buy a flat screened TV to put in the armoire. I then picked furniture from the show room of Bassett furniture, which was a bit of a challenge because Bassett is a custom furniture store, custom orders take 4 to 6 weeks to receive, but we were able to pull it off.

Our paint color that we chose was from Sherwin-Williams (Silvermist). Sunshine Draperies worked very hard to get the custom draperies made in two weeks - they turned out beautiful.

I then put the Finishing Touches into the room by adding a few items on the tables, artwork and arrangements on a wooden stand and pocket on the wall. I also suggested that if after getting used to the room they still needed more seating they could add a couple of square ottomans, one on either side of the armoire, which could be pulled into the room if needed.
